7 tips for UI design
For a simple, good-looking and easy-to-use UI designing, these following tips should be taken into consideration by designers:
1) Setting expectations
A UI design should be telling users what will happen if they click a specific button. Clicking buttons might mean deleting any website, playing a song or spending money, etc. There are always some consequences for pressing buttons, and designers need to highlight them in different colors or from symbols.
2) Guide your users throughout the interface
While making a UI design, another thing that you should keep in mind is telling people how to use your interface. For example, Tinder has its whole app controlled by a single swipe to the left or right. This example shows the interface usage, and it can be of two types, i.e., direct and indirect interactions.
Direct interactions include swiping cards and tapping buttons whereas indirect interactions include using key shortcuts and typing in form fields etc.
3) Know your users
When you are making a UI design, you should know your users. You should know what demands do they have and how they like an interface to be. Designers should know about anything that stands in their way as well.
4) Predict mistakes
This tip for UI design tells you how to lessen the impact of any human errors made by designers. Minimizing errors is possible by preventing any mistakes before they happen, and providing ways to fix the mistakes after they happen. For example, when you are filling out an online Google form, buttons don’t work until all necessary fields in the form are filled. If you want to write errors, make sure you explain the problem as well as how to fix it.
Almost every single human being or animal is capable of giving feedback. Digital interfaces sometimes fail to respond to the command, and this is frustrating. Therefore, designers need to ensure that their UI design has the potential to provide feedback.
6) Careful thinking regarding element size and placement
If you are a designer, you should know that the element size should be big and closer than other elements. The most important implications are as follows:
- a) Design buttons for common actions larger than usual.
- b) Design buttons and other targets slightly big, so that the user can easily see and observe them.
- c) The corners of the element should have navigation/ search bars.
7) Do not ignore the standards
Designers are always trying to produce new designs from existing ones. They should reinvent interfaces only when there is a guarantee of improvement.
As a designer looking to create a site that provides exceptional user experience, you must keep the following tips in mind!
